#LongLiveIndieBiz - August 2022

Everyone’s favourite monthly celebration of indie brands is here

If you’re new around here, every month we share a few of our favourite independent businesses here on the blog and on IG using #LongLiveIndieBiz. So, if you’re looking for a reason to shop small (and why wouldn’t you be?) then sit back, relax and enjoy the brands we’re loving this Summer…

Marbling by Zeena Shah
Leonie Flower Studio
Bookish
Simple Stitches - Hand Embroidery Kit

From L-R:

We love a craft book, and we’re so excited for the latest offering from art director, stylist, author and presenter extraordinaire Zeena Shah. Marbling (£15) will show you how to create and transfer patterned inks onto paper and fabric while inspiring you to discover your own eye for colour. Pre-order now for 1st September!

Leonie Flower Studio is a colourful print-focussed slow fashion brand. Their garments are made to order in the UK which means no wasted stock, and every size is available in every pattern on every garment! Win win win! Keep an eye on their Instagram to see when they next open up for pre-orders!

Book(ish) is an award-nominated online magazine for casual readers, hardcore readers, I-read-as-a-kid readers, read on holiday readers and everyone else in between! The literary world can be a bit elitist, but founder Charley wants to remind book lovers that stories are fun, and there’s no such thing as reading “properly”. YES, girl!

Natalie Gaynor Designs created these Simple Stitches Hand Embroidery Kits (£16) with ease in mind, for would-be stitchers that believe they’re “not creative enough", "can’t even thread a needle" and "could never make something like that!". Kits include video tutorials that show you EXACTLY how it’s done. Crafty imposter syndrome, be gone!

Marbled teardrop latte inspired dangle earrings
BLUNT Umbrellas x Liz Harry - Adventure Whatever The Weather Colourful Rainbow Brolly
CARING IS COOL t-shirt, coral on pink
The Lucky Stitch Society

From L-R:

By Coya’s polymer clay earrings are made by hand and inspired by owner Aiza’s love of food. These Bridget Marbled Teardrop Latte-Inspired Dangle Earrings  (£23) caught our eye as those neutral tones are perfect for a laid-back Summer look! We’re picturing a low ponytail, floaty white dress and gold sandals.

Liz Harry has put her signature colourful spin on BLUNT’s Iconic Metro umbrella (£80) Featuring playful icons that embody travel and Blunt’s brave and carefree spirit, this design screams ‘adventure whatever the weather’! This is an investment piece for sure, but it’s wind-tested to category one hurricane. Blimey!

You heard it here first: Caring is cool, pals. Show you care with this buttery soft eco-friendly screen-printed pink Caring is Cool t-shirt (£22) from The Enthusiast. Every sale includes a £1 donation to MIND and a £1 donation to Black Minds Matter, a charity connecting black individuals and families with free professional mental health resources in the UK.

Untld Project favs The Make Arcade have just announced a new stitching subscription box, The Lucky Stitch Society! Their first box is expected to dispatch mid-August and features a dreamy outdoorsy theme with a very cute non-stitchy project. Intriguing! Keep an eye on their Instagram for more as it happens!

fiok Plant and Storage Pot
CLOUD FLOWER ROSE PINK VISCOSE SATEEN
Mr Kipling Mini Cakes Embroidered Tshirt
HUSTLEwell

From L-R:

Add a pop of colour to your kitchen, living room or indoor garden area with this Ifiok Plant and Storage Pot (£22) from Osime Home. Osime (Oh-Sim-Meh) translates to this is my own, and owner June started the brand in 2020 after struggling to find homewares inspired by African design to decorate her home.

Both Nerrisa and Joy are avid dressmakers, and we couldn’t resist including this Cloud Flower Rose Pink Viscose Sateen (£10.50 per half metre), designed by Fabric Godmother, and stocked at Sister Mintaka. Pink and red is always a good idea, and this floaty fabric would be perfect for dresses, shirts or a fabulously extra pair of pyjamas!

This Mr Kipling Mini Cakes Embroidered T-shirt (£25) by Lacklustre Embroidery is full of retro charm and has us longing for lazy picnics! Lauren describes her biz as “cheeky, kitsch and one of a kind. All ethically produced with a lil bit of attitude and a whole lot of love”. Now that’s sentiment we can get behind!

Annie combined her experience of setting up and running a cross stitch business with her previous role as a corporate coach to bring you Hustle Well. She’s here to help new craft business owners put solid business foundations in place, make more sales and find more joy in their business! She offers a variety of services to suit all budgets, including a free monthly drop in session.

Wanna be a part of our monthly round ups? No worries babes, simply use the #LongLiveIndieBiz hashtag on IG and we’ll give you a cheeky shout out in one of our future blog posts!
